OMSK. April 4 (Interfax) - The Omsk Regional Court has sentenced a local resident to 12 years in a high-security penitentiary on counts of treason, the regional prosecution service said on Thursday.
"The court found that a resident of the Omsk region gathered military information, which constituted a state secret, and tried to contact a representative of a foreign state for passing the information in 2022," the statement said.
The Federal Security Service put a stop to his activity.
The convict gathered secret information about a Russian Defense Ministry facility and planned to pass it to representatives of Germany, spokesperson for the FSB regional branch Irina Rusnak said.
"The criminal case defendant, a former defense plant employee, was in contact with foreigners seeking to pass military information and to take permanent residence in Germany together with his family," she said.
Electronic communication devices, a flash drive with coordinates of an Omsk military unit and information about its commanding officers, and a file with printed documents and photos for a Schengen visa were seized from the man during his detention in June 2023.
