YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. April 5 (Interfax) - Bastion coastal missile systems have practiced defending the Kuril Islands, the Russian Pacific Fleet's press service said in a statement on Friday.
The exercise took place on the North Kuril Island of Paramushir in the Sakhalin region. According to the exercise scenario, a mock enemy assault force tried to land on the island.
"The systems trained at deploying to positions and followed the protocol to detect and 'destroy' mock surface targets through electronic launches and to rapidly change positions," the statement said.
Emphasis was placed on camouflage and the stealthy redeployment of launchers around the island. Air defense protected the systems from the mock enemy's aerial reconnaissance, it said.
The exercise was part of the fleet's training plan.
