Russian deputy FM, Iranian ambassador discuss Mideast, stress unacceptability of further escalation - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. April 5 (Interfax) - Russian Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met with Iranian Ambassador in Moscow Kazem Jalali on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The meeting addressed the current situation in the Middle East with a focus on the situation in Syria and around the Gaza Strip. The parties reaffirmed the unacceptability of any further escalation of violence, including through unilateral actions that could lead to the spread of armed confrontation across the region," the ministry said in a statement.

Bogdanov and Jalali also said that Moscow and Tehran remain committed to maintaining their active political dialogue and coordinating approaches in the interests of securing a peaceful solution to the crises and conflicts in the Middle East, it said.
