TBILISI. April 5 (Interfax) - The UN Human Rights Committee has urged Georgian officials to recall the bill on transparency of foreign influence from the parliament.
The committee urges Georgian officials to recall the bill, which defines Georgian non-governmental organizations that receive 20% of their funding from abroad as "entities serving the interests of a foreign state," Georgian media said, citing the committee statement.
Earlier on Thursday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters in Brussels about his negative attitude towards the Georgian parliament's consideration of the foreign influence bill.
He said Georgia needed to work on reforms to become closer to NATO and the EU, he said.
The ruling Georgian Dream party submitted the bill On Transparency of Foreign Influence to parliament on April 3. The bill was withdrawn in March 2023 after passing its first reading amid mass protests in Tbilisi.
