Russian Northern Fleet's Admiral Levchenko destroyer practices searching for, striking mock enemy submarine

MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - The Russian Northern Fleet's Admiral Levchenko destroyer has practiced searching for and striking a mock enemy submarine at a range in the Barents Sea, the fleet's press service said on Monday.

"A nuclear submarine of the Northern Fleet opposed the ship," the press service.

A Kamov Ka-27 shipborne anti-submarine helicopter took off from the destroyer's deck and dropped buoys to create a large sonic zone in the Barents Sea.

"The pilots used a sonic station to clarify the coordinates of the mock enemy underwater target," it said.

"At the final stage of the exercise, the rocket-and-torpedo crew acquired a target designation and fired a RBU-6000 rocket launcher and a torpedo at a simulated undersea target," it said.

According to preliminary information, the Admiral Levchenko successfully completed the training mission.
