German troops' deployment to Lithuania would require special Russian national security measures - Kremlin

MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - The Kremlin views the deployment of German troops to Lithuania negatively and believes that Russia needs to take special measures to ensure national security, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Negatively. This means a further escalation of tensions and points of risk at our border, which would require special measures to ensure national security," Peskov told reporters on Monday when asked to comment on the deployment of German troops to Lithuania.

The Baltic agency BNS said that over 20 German soldiers led by Chief of the German Army Alfons Mais were due to arrive in Vilnius on Monday as the first group of officers of the 45th Lietuva Brigade's staff to supervise the planning of its deployment to Lithuania.
