MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - The Russian military is helping to mitigate the Yelshanka and Ural river floods at the request of the Orenburg region's governor, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.
"Military engineers from the Yasny Missile Formation have traveled to Orsk to help mitigate the flood. The servicemen will bring drinking water and soil to the damaged dam near Orsk and will help evacuate civilians to safety," the ministry said.
Over 100 troops and 18 vehicles, such as dump trucks, bulldozers and excavators, are taking part in the mission, it said.
"In addition, members of the Yasny Missile Formation will help reinforce river banks in the Orenburg region," the ministry said.
