Russian Pacific Fleet ships repel mock enemy drone strike off Kuril Islands

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. April 9 (Interfax) - The Russian Pacific Fleet's Oslyabya and Nikolai Vilkov landing ships have practiced repelling a drone strike off the Kuril Islands, the fleet's press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the exercise scenario, the radio-technical units of the landing ships at sea detected a number of air targets flying low towards the ships from the Kuril Islands. The ships' units were alerted, sailors rushed to their combat stations, and the air strike protocol was activated, the press service said.

"Every mock drone was destroyed by Strela-3 MANPADS operated by the ships' combat units in a prompt and professional manner. Anti-drone gun crews were also deployed on deck to raise effectiveness in countering the mock drones," it said.

All air targets were electronically simulated, and the exercise was part of the fleet's training plan, it said.
