BEIJING. April 9 (Interfax) - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has warned that attempts to provoke confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region would have no future and NATO must not interfere in its affairs.
"It is necessary to adhere to genuine multi-polarity and oppose any attempts at confrontation, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, where we are. NATO should not extend its hand into our common home," Wang said following negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday.
Chinese media quoted Wang as saying that any attempts to incite divisions and confrontations in the region "will not have any fertile ground or future."
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said last week that NATO was focused on maintaining security in Europe and North America and had no plans to admit countries from other parts of the world.
He pointed out, however, that the security of NATO countries depended, inter alia, on events in Asia.
