KALININGRAD. April 9 (Interfax) - Kaliningrad regional police have seized a large batch of cocaine hidden in a banana shipment from Colombia.
"Employees of a logistic center in Zaozerye in the Guryevsk district found plastic-wrapped briquettes while unloading Colombian bananas and reported the suspicious objects to the police. The cargo was inspected, and the police seized nine boxes containing 76 kilograms of briquettes of a white powdery substance under the top layer of fruit. The substance was tentatively identified as a narcotic drug, cocaine," Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said.
The police found that the bananas were shipped from Colombia to Germany by sea, transported to Klaipeda by truck, and imported into the Kaliningrad region through the Chernyshevskoye checkpoint. The truck departed for Poland after unloading the goods.
A criminal case has been opened and an investigation has begun.
