BAKU/YEREVAN. April 9 (Interfax) - Armenian forces have attacked the Azerbaijani forces' positions in the Nakhchivan sector, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
"Units of the Armenian Armed Forces attacked the positons of the Azerbaijani army in the direction of Jazihir, Sharur district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, using small arms of various caliber from positions located in the direction of Arpa, Keshishkend district from 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. on April 9," the Defense Ministry said.
The Azerbaijani units "took appropriate retaliatory measures," the ministry said.
The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Baku's statement on attacks on Azerbaijani army positions.
"The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has again disseminated misinformation. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry's report stating that units of the Armenian Armed Forces opened fire on Azerbaijani positions located in the southwestern part of the border zone in the period between 4:00 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. on April 9 is untrue," the Armenian Defense Ministry press service said.
