Russian Pacific Fleet's AS-30 deep-water submersible performs first dive after repairs outside Kamchatka

MOSCOW. April 10 (Interfax) - The Russian Pacific Fleet's AS-30 deep-water submersible has performed its first dive after scheduled maintenance outside Kamchatka, the fleet's press service said on Wednesday.

"The crew of the AS-30 deep-water submersible did commissioning work onboard the Georgy Kozmin rescue vessel," the press service said.

The yearlong maintenance at a shipyard in St. Petersburg included replacement of the submersible's engines and overhaul of its communication, navigation and radio-technical systems.

The AS-30 is an upgraded autonomous submersible of the Priz class (Project 1855) designed to rescue crews of submarines in distress at depths of up to one kilometer. The submersible, operated by a four-member crew, can take up to 20 rescued sailors aboard.
