MOSCOW. April 10 (Interfax) - Russia's state weapons exports monopoly Rosoboronexport has offered foreign customers its project for organizing and fully equipping airborne forces within their national armed forces, the company said in a statement.
"Today Rosoboronexport offers friendly countries [the opportunity] to implement projects for building, equipping and training airborne units, given the rich traditions and combat experience of the Russian Airborne Forces. The Company sees great potential for its offer in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa," Rosoboronexport quoted its CEO Alexander Mikheyev as saying.
"Rosoboronexport's efforts will result in the emergence of a fully operational branch of the foreign customer's armed forces," the company said.
According to Mikheyev, the record of contemporary military, counterterrorism, and peacekeeping operations shows that "airborne units are the most highly trained tactical formations capable of rapidly achieving goals behind enemy lines and at the forward edge of the battle area."
The Russian defense industry has developed new types of military equipment for airborne forces in recent years, and instructors from the Russian Defense Ministry will provide training for their personnel, it said.
