Suspected police assailant detained in Moscow region

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - The Russian Interior Ministry has reported detaining a suspected assailant of police officers in the Moscow region, one of whom died.

"Employees of the Russian Interior Ministry's branch in the Moscow region and their Tver colleagues, acting with armed support of the Russian National Guard, have detained a man, suspected of assaulting officers of the Losino-Petrovsky urban district's police department on April 7 this year, in the Tver region," Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said.

She said the detainee would soon be taken to an investigative department for questioning.

Losino-Petrovsky urban district officers were trying to detain a drug dealer in the village of Yakimovo in the Chernogolovka urban district of the Moscow region on April 7. The suspect opened fire, killing Senior Warrant Officer Sergei Yefimenko and injuring his workmate.

The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on counts of an attack on police officers.
