Nearly quarter of Russians view Russia as one of best developed countries in terms of future technologies - poll

MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - Twenty-three percent of Russians view Russia as one of the best developed countries in terms of future technologies, and a third believe that Russia seeks to achieve this status, the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) said on its website on Tuesday.

Russians include artificial intelligence, robots, bioengineering and space exploration in the category of future technologies.

The share of respondents who call Russia one of the best developed countries in terms of future technologies is the highest in the age group older than 60 (29%), the pollster said.

Meanwhile, 32% say that Russia might acquire this status within the next five to ten years, and the share is the biggest (39%) among respondents older than 60.

Twenty-six percent of respondents think Russia will attain the status in the more distant future, 20 or 30 years from now. The share is the biggest (49%) among respondents aged 18 to 24.

Eleven percent of Russians doubt that the status is attainable, and respondents aged 25 to 35 are the most skeptical (16%), while 8% are undecided, the pollster said.

VCIOM polled 1,609 respondents online nationwide on February 8-9.
