YEKATERINBURG. April 16 (Interfax) - Russian and Tajik motorized rifle units have practiced neutralizing mock militants during a joint exercise at the Kharb Maidon military training range, the press service for Russia's Central Military District said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Under the scenario of the exercise, servicemen encircled a group of mock militants in a settlement. Russian operators of Piranha FPV drones conducted reconnaissance of the terrain and destroyed mock enemy light armored hardware and vehicles, creating conditions conducive to a further offensive by the joint forces," the statement said.
The motorized rifle units' assault groups, backed by BTR-82A armored personnel carriers and T-72B3M and T-72 tanks, also conducted a mopping-up operation in the settlement, it said.
The joint exercise at the Kharb Maidon mountain and desert range in Tajikistan's Khatlon region is taking place on April 15-18.
The Russian contingent taking part in the drills consists of mainly of units from the Central Military District's 201st Russian military base.
Troops are practicing elements of state border protection and neutralizing terrorist groups and illegal armed formations that allegedly broke through the border.
