MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Bastion missile systems have conducted an exercise to deploy on the Baltic Sea coast in the Kaliningrad region and prepare for simulated launches, the Russian Baltic Fleet said on Thursday.
"Bastion missile systems will practice destroying enemy warship units and coastal targets using electronic missile launches in the near future as part of a routine exercise," the fleet's press service said.
The exercise was part of a check for the winter training period, which involved more than 50 troops and some 10 pieces of special and road equipment, the military said.
"Following an alarm signal, divisions of Bastion mobile coastal missile systems promptly left their permanent bases, moved to the deployment area and took up positions on the coast of the Kaliningrad region. The missile troops used electronic warfare systems to search for targets in the Baltic Sea and began tracking the mock enemy ships," the press service said.
According to official data, the Bastion coastal missile system is designed to protect sea coasts and have a range of over 600 kilometers. One system can be equipped with up to 36 Oniks cruise missiles.
Officially, there are two configurations of Bastion, a product of Tactical Missiles Corporation's NPO Mashinostroyenia, including the Bastion-P road-mobile system and the Bastion-S silo-based system.
The Russian military has reported using Bastion systems for strikes on ground targets in Syria and during the special military operation in Ukraine.
