Total of 120 civilians in Russia's Belgorod region die in attacks since start of special military operation - governor

VORONEZH. April 23 (Interfax) - Governor of Russia's Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov has unveiled the number of local residents killed or injured in Ukrainian attacks since February 2022.

"A total of 120 civilians, among them 11 children, have died in our region. A further 651, including 51 children, have been injured," Gladkov said on his Telegram channel on Monday.

The Belgorod region's border territories have come under Ukrainian attacks since February 24, 2022. The region has declared a yellow (high) level of terrorist alert and a state of emergency in 15 border communities.

Strikes on the Belgorod region from Ukrainian territory have become more frequent since March 12, 2024. Its administrative center has also been attacked. Residents from areas facing attacks have been moved to temporary accommodation centers. Children have been evacuated to other Russian regions for safety. More than 12,000 children from the Belgorod region are currently staying in 42 Russian regions.
