U.S. soldier arrested in Russia's Vladivostok on suspicion of theft

VLADIVOSTOK. May 7 (Interfax) - A court in Vladivostok, Russia, has ordered the arrest of a U.S. military service member, who is suspected of theft, the unified press service for the Primorye Territory's judicial system told Interfax.

"The Pervomaisky District Court of Vladivostok on May 3 remanded him into custody until July 2 as a restraining measure," the press service said.

The U.S. citizen is suspected of theft entailing serious damage, it said.

Several media outlets said earlier that a U.S. soldier was detained in Russia on May 2 after being accused of committing a crime. He is stationed in South Korea and made a private trip to Vladivostok, where he was accused of stealing from a woman.
