Russian, Saudi FMs discuss Middle East situation by phone - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - Acting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal Bin Farhan al Saud have discussed bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East by phone, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The two foreign ministers discussed the further development of Russian-Saudi relations with an emphasis on implementing the agreements reached during Russian President Vladimir Putin's official visit to Riyadh in December 2023," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

The sides highlighted regional affairs "in the context of the unprecedented escalation of tensions in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and the Red Sea," the ministry said.

"The ministers reaffirmed the common stance in favor of the further consolidation of efforts by all responsible members of the international community for the sake of the soonest possible political and diplomatic settlement of acute crises undermining peace and stability in the Middle East," it said.

According to the ministry, the phone call took place on May 7.
