Monument to soldiers who died in special military operation unveiled in Sochi - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. May 8 (Interfax) - A monument to servicemen who died in the special military operation has been unveiled in the Adler district of Sochi, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The memorial is installed near monuments to soldiers of the Great Patriotic War and to Afghanistan veterans, where there is also an Alley of Glory lined with busts of Heroes of the Soviet Union and a stele commemorating the victims of the plane crash over the Black Sea," it said.

A Tupolev Tu-154 passenger jet heading for Syria crashed into the Black Sea near Sochi on December 25, 2016. The plane was carrying a total of 92 people, including military personnel, journalists, members of the Alexandrov Ensemble and its head Valery Khalilov, head of the Just Assistance charity foundation Yelizaveta Glinka, and others.
