MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - Russia will begin financing the construction of its own space station in 2024, Denis Manturov, a candidate for first deputy prime minister, said on Monday.
"We're focusing on the construction of a Russian space station, and we'll begin its financing this year," Manturov said at a State Duma meeting.
The project will ensure continuity in Russia's piloted space programs and research, he said.
On October 27, 2023, CEO of Russia's Roscosmos state space corporation Yury Borisov said the space station project envisioned allocating around 609 billion rubles in the period up to 2032.
Russia plans to build a new space station as a replacement for the International Space Station. The first phase of the project is scheduled for 2027-2030, and its completion is planned for 2032. The first phase should see the launch of a science and power module, a node, and an airlock chamber, which will be followed by the deployment of a core module for controlling the station. The following stages involve deploying a number of special-purpose modules.
