Crimean court sentences 5 agents of Ukrainian security services to 11-16 years in jail

MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - A court in Crimea has sentenced five agents of the Ukrainian security services to between 11 and 16 years in a high-security penitentiary for sharing information about Russian troops, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB)'s public relations center said on Monday.

"They have been penalized with imprisonment, including 16 years for Petrovsky, 15 years for Kotov, 11 years for both Kozlov and Arefyev, and 13 years for Zarivny to be served in a high-security penitentiary," the FSB said.

The sentence has taken effect.

"Investigative procedures helped identify the Ukrainian citizens as Nikolai Petrovsky born on November 19, 1993, Sergei Kotov born on August 21, 1972, Ivan Kozlov born on July 7, 1988, Sergei Arefyev born on September 8, 1992, and Alexander Zarivny born on December 17, 1968. They gathered information about the bases, numbers and deployment routes of Russian forces in the special military operation zone and handed it over to representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine," the FSB said.

The information provided "was used by members of Ukrainian paramilitary detachments to adjust artillery and missile fire and bombardments of the Russian Armed Forces positions," it said.

The investigative department of the FSB branch in Crimea and Sevastopol opened criminal cases against the detained agents of the Security Service of Ukraine on counts of espionage and treason.
