Russian Investigative Committee reports arresting head of Russian Defense Ministry's Main Personnel Directorate Kuznetsov on suspicion of taking bribe

MOSCOW. May 14 (Interfax) - Head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Main Personnel Directorate Yury Kuznetsov has been detained on suspicion of taking a large bribe, Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said.

"The Main Investigative Department of the Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Main Personnel Directorate Yury Kuznetsov. He is suspected of taking a large bribe," Petrenko told reporters on Tuesday.

"A court upheld an investigator's motion and placed Kuznetsov under arrest," Petrenko said.

According to the investigator, Kuznetsov, serving as head of the Eighth Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces' General Staff in 2021-2023, "took a bribe from representatives of commercial entities in exchange for certain actions to their benefit."

"The search of the actual and registered places of residence of the suspect resulted in the detection and seizure of ruble and foreign currency cash in the total amount of over 100 million rubles, in addition to gold coins, collectible watches and luxury goods," Petrenko said.
