NEW YORK, UN. May 15 (Interfax) - UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged the sides to exercise restraint against the backdrop of protests against the foreign agent law in Georgia, Guterres' spokesman Farhan Haq said on Tuesday.
"What I can say is that the Secretary General is following with concern the developments in Georgia. Particularly, the violent clashes and reports of disproportionate use of force by law enforcement personnel against demonstrators," Haq said at a press briefing.
"He calls for restraint and dialogue between the authorities and the civil society, as well as prompt investigation of all allegations of ill treatment during or after protests, or in detention," Haq said.
