BAKU/TBILISI. May 15 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze have condemned the armed attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"I am shocked by the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Robert Fico. I strongly condemn this attack," Aliyev said on the social network X.
He said his thoughts are now with Prime Minister Fico, his family and the people of Slovakia and wished Fico a speedy recovery.
Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze also condemned the attack on Fico.
"We strongly condemn the cruel and senseless attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico," Kobakhidze said on the social network X on Wednesday. The attention of Georgia is on the prime minister of Slovakia and the people of Slovakia at this difficult time, he said.
Fico was wounded in a shooting incident in Handlova, a city located 150 kilometers from Bratislava, on Wednesday. He was hospitalized in Banska Bystrica in serious condition. The shooter has been detained, he is a 71-year-old man who lives in southeastern Slovakia.
