ASTANA. May 20 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has extended condolences over the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and noted his contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
"I was aggrieved by the news of the death of President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi and his loyal associates. Ebrahim Raisi was an outstanding statesman who devoted his entire life to selfless service in the interests of the Iranian state, the wellbeing of his people, and stability in the region. As is known, his initiatives and merits were highly praised by the international community," Tokayev said in a telegram to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber and the people of Iran.
The presidential press service published extracts from the telegram.
"Kazakhstan will always remember Ebrahim Raisi as a responsible leader, an authoritative politician at the international level, and a person who made a significant contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation," the telegram said.
