TBILISI. May 20 (Interfax) - Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has blocked the path to discussion by vetoing the law On the Transparency of Foreign Influence, but the majority of fellow citizens support it, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
"I proposed to diplomats that we discuss the law, but received no response. President Salome Zourabichvili rudely vetoed the law, thus blocking the path to a discussion," Kobakhidze said at a government meeting on Monday.
The law's opponents are trying to avoid a discussion of it as much as they can, he said.
Kobakhidze said he had offered young protesters a chance to meet and discuss the law, but did not receive any response either.
"According to opinion polls, over 60% of the population support the law On the Transparency of Foreign Influence, so common sense must triumph in the end. That's my personal opinion," he said.
"The law On the Transparency of Foreign Influence will help us maintain an enduring peace in Georgia, which the country and our population need so much," Kobakhidze said.
