Military court orders arrest of Russia's 58th Army ex-commander in fraud case

MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - The 235th Garrison Military Court has granted the investigation's motion on taking Maj. Gen. Ivan Popov, former commander of Russia's 58th Army, into pretrial custody, the court's press service told Interfax.

"The court ordered that Popov be taken into custody for two months as a measure of restraint," it said.

The court handed down its judgment on May 17, it said.

Popov is suspected of especially large-scale fraud, it said.
