Putin sees Raisi's death as great loss

MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's death is a great loss, he was a reliable partner and a man of his word, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

On Tuesday evening, Putin met with State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, who is to travel to Iran on Wednesday morning to attend a memorial service for Raisi.

"Certainly, President Raisi's death is a great loss primarily for Iran and the Iranian people, and so I ask you to convey my words of sincere condolences in the wake of this tragedy," Putin said addressing Volodin.

"Indeed, this was a very reliable partner, a straightforward and self-assured man. Above all, he was a man guided by national interests. Of course, he was a man of his word, and it was a pleasure to work with him. I mean, if we agreed on something, you could always be sure that the agreements would be honored," he said.
