Russian Consulate General in Germany's Bonn says car rammed into its gates on Wednesday evening

BONN. May 23 (Interfax) - A car drove into the gates of the Russian Consulate General in the German city of Bonn at around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, damaging them, the Russian diplomatic mission said on its Telegram channel.

"The entrance gates of Russia's Consulate General in Bonn were damaged after a car rammed into them. Preliminary information indicates that its driver was under the influence of alcohol or narcotic drugs," it said.

Police officers arrived at the Consulate General few minutes after they were summoned. They detained the man, who did not offer any resistance to them, examined the scene of the incident, documented facts, evidence and the damage caused to the diplomatic mission's property. The car was towed away.

"We count on a prompt and professional investigation into the incident based on a statement of offense filed by the Consulate General," it said.
