Putin, king of Bahrain to discuss escalation of Palestinian-Israeli conflict at meeting in Kremlin

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain will exchange views on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict at a meeting in the Kremlin on Thursday, according to materials prepared for the king's visit to Russia.

"A discussion of regional problems, above all the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, is expected in the light of the Bahraini presidency of the League of Arab States," the materials published by the Kremlin press service said.

"Both countries' approaches to the Middle East peace process have much in common. They advocate a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict on the universally recognized international legal basis, which envisages the establishment of an independent state of Palestine within the 1967 borders and with its capital in East Jerusalem," the materials said.
