Russian military reports 11 violations of Syrian airspace over past day

MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - Aircraft of the U.S.-led coalition have continued to create dangerous situations in Syria's airspace, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria Maj. Gen. Yury Popov said.

"Seven breaches of the deconfliction protocols dated December 9, 2019, by flights of the coalition's unmanned aerial vehicles uncoordinated with the Russian side were recorded over the day," Popov said at a press briefing on Monday.

Four violations of Syrian airspace by a pair of coalition F-15 fighter jets and a pair of A-10 Thunderbolt attack planes were recorded over the al-Tanf area over the past day, he said.

The Russian Aerospace Forces delivered a strike on a base of a sabotage group made up of militants who exited the Al-Tanf area and were hiding in hard-to-reach districts of the Al-Bishri mountain range in Deir-ez-Zor province, Popov said.

Sniper fire also wounded one Syrian soldier in Aleppo and Latakia provinces each.
