CHISINAU. May 29 (Interfax) - Moldova's incumbent President Maia Sandu leads among the presidential candidates in the election scheduled for October 20, according to a public opinion poll presented by the company iData on Wednesday.
According to the poll, 30.4% of the respondents intend to vote for Sandu; 14.3% support ex-president Igor Dodon; 6.1% support former Prime Minister Ion Chicu; 3.9% support Our Party Chairman Renato Usatii; and three percent support Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban, who officially said this week he will not run in the coming election. More than 30% of the respondents were undecided or said they will not vote.
As for the parliamentary election, which is scheduled for summer 2025, three parties may secure seats in the country's parliament. According to the poll, votes in the parliamentary election may be distributed as follows: the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) would get 25.6% of the vote, the Victory bloc would get 13.7%, and the Party of Socialists would get 13.1%. The other parties do not reach the five percent barrier 5% (the next party on the list of preferences is the Together bloc with 3.3%). More than 30% of the respondents were undecided or said they will not vote in the election.
According to the poll results, 40.5% of Moldova's citizens support Moldova leaving the CIS, 35.5% are against it, and 24% are undecided.
A total of 57.9% of the respondents support Moldova's accession to the European Union, and 30.9% are against it.
Responding to a question as to whether the situation in Moldova is developing in the right or wrong direction, 44.3% said Moldova has chosen the wrong direction (a 4.5% decrease from last month), while 42.6% believe the direction is correct (a 6.8% increase from last month).
The poll was conducted on May 22-27. It surveyed 1,022 people.
