Russia, Myanmar identify prospects for development of military cooperation - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax) - Russia's Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin and Commander of the Myanmar Armed Forces Htung Aung have met to discuss military-technical cooperation between the two nations and enhancing ties between defense ministries, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"At the meeting, the sides noted positive dynamic in the development of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation, determined prospects for interaction and outlined the ways for bringing them into life," the Russian ministry said.

The sides also noted the consolidating dialogue between the defense ministries, and in particular, "between the two countries' air forces," it said.

The meeting took place in Moscow on May 29, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

On April 12, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Defense Minister Alexander Fomin and Chief of Staff of the Myanmar Ground Forces Kyaw Swar Lin had discussed military-technical cooperation at a working meeting.

Fomin said earlier on March 28 that the Russian and Myanmar Armed Forces were planning to hold more than 50 events as part of bilateral military cooperation in 2024.
