Biden's VP, national security advisor to represent U.S. at Ukraine meeting

WASHINGTON. June 3 (Interfax) - The United States will dispatch Vice President Kamala Harris and its president's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to Switzerland to participate in a conference on the Ukraine crisis.

"Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Lucerne, Switzerland on June 15 to participate in the summit on peace in Ukraine," a White House statement published on Monday said.

"National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will join the Vice President in representing the United States at the summit," the statement said.

U.S. President Joe Biden was going to skip the meeting, the Bloomberg agency said earlier.

The Ukraine peace summit is due to be held in Switzerland on June 15-16.

Russia will not be attending the meeting. Switzerland was ready to send it an invitation but Moscow was not interested, the Swiss government stated in May. At the same time, the peace process is not impossible without Russia, the statement said.
