Belarus to conduct exercise for territorial defense members in area bordering Ukraine

MINSK. June 3 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Defense Ministry has announced an exercise for territorial defense members liable for call-up and people's militia in the Gomel region, which borders Ukraine.

"As part of a camp for members of territorial forces liable for call-up in the Rechitsa district of the Gomel region, a command post exercise will be held from June 3 to 5, which will logically conclude it and help assess the results of these activities," the ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Service members called up from reserve and a people's militia unit set up from local volunteers will take part in the drills, it said.

"The exercise is aimed at honing skills of military officials in commanding their subordinates and training territorial forces personnel to carry out their duties in achieving territorial defense goals," it said.

"Principal attention will be attached to enforcing martial law measures with a people's militia unit engaged," it said.
