OUAGADOUGOU. June 4 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed confidence that his visit to Burkina Faso would give an impetus to the two countries' relations.
"Our relations are on the rise, primarily as a result of the agreements which were reached at the meeting of our presidents, Mr. [Vladimir] Putin and Capt. [Ibrahim] Traore, during the second Russia-Africa summit last year," Lavrov said during a meeting with Burkina Faso Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore.
He also thanked the minister for assisting in resolving issues dealing with the resumption of the operation if the Russian Embassy in the Burkina Faso in late 2023.
"Certainly, our talks today and tomorrow will help specifying the objectives set by our presidents in St. Petersburg last July and give a new impetus to our friendly relations," Lavrov said.
Traore, for his part, thanked Lavrov for his visit and expressed confidence that it would continue making a contribution to the improvement of bilateral relations started during the meetings of the two leaders in St. Petersburg last July.
