CSTO security council secretaries discuss countering terrorism, cybercrime, drug trafficking in Almaty

ASTANA. June 6 (Interfax) - The Committee of Security Council Secretaries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) met in Almaty on Thursday under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan, a statement published on the Kazakh presidential website said.

The sides exchanged views on the situation in the CSTO zone of responsibility. Kazakh Security Council Secretary Gizat Nurdauletov briefed his counterparts on Kazakhstan's stance on key areas of CSTO operations, including in the light of priorities of the Kazakh presidency."Particular attention was paid to the practical countering of current threats and challenges, such as international terrorism, cybercrime, drug and arms trafficking, and transborder organized crime," the statement said.

The CSTO Collective Security Council approved a draft decision on the CSTO interstate targeted program on reinforcing the tajik-afghan border, it said. The sides reaffirmed their commitment to further cooperation and strengthening of the CSTO, it said.

The next meeting of the CSTO Committee of Security Council Secretaries will take place in Astana in November 2024 ahead of the CSTO Collective Security Council's session.
