Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson views Africa as alternative platform for diplomatic discussions to West

MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - Africa could replace the West as a platform for international diplomatic discussions, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

Commenting on reports about the need to move the UN headquarters from New York, Zakharova mentioned that the president of Zimbabwe mentioned at the forum on Friday that "a large new congress center" is being built in his country.

"Meanwhile, it is not a joke. Why shouldn't we indeed relocate the vector of the international negotiating process there instead of Switzerland? It is not a wish to get back at New York and not resentment because they do not issue visas to us. It is not the matter, the matter is that the continent which was feeding and giving resources to provide for the dominant for so many years must be compensated now," she said at a panel discussion as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Saturday.

The world needs to "pay the debt to millions of people who served the Western dominant for hundreds of years," she said. "It needs to be a real evaluation, a real contribution, understanding and inclusion of this example in educational processes all over the world and, finally repayment of debts to the African continent," Zakharova said.
