Russian, Egyptian warships to take part in bilateral naval exercise in next few days

MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - Russia's Varyag Guards' missile cruiser and the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate have called at the port of Alexandria in Egypt, where they will later take part in a bilateral exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry's information and mass communications department said.

"The Russian warships' working visit will last until June 14 and will end with a bilateral exercise involving Egyptian Navy ships in the Passex format. The ships will drill at performing elements of joint maneuvering, conducting communications training and at undertaking inspections," the ministry said.

Representatives of the Egyptian Navy's command will attend a reception on board the Varyag cruiser as part of the Russian warships' call at the port of Alexandria, it said.

"The call of the Russian warship squadron at the port of Alexandria will be another practical step towards reinforcing Russian-Egyptian naval cooperation," it said.
