MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday met with Lao Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith to discuss further development of the strategic partnership between the two countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The sides have discussed the current state of the Russian-Lao strategic partnership and prospects for its further promotion with an emphasis on implementing the agreements reached at the talks between the two countries' leaders in Moscow on May 9," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
Subjects discussed at the meeting included "issues of mutual interest relating to the regional and the global agenda, the Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership in the context of Laos' chairmanship in the Association next year," it said. "There was a substantive exchange of views on the subjects of interaction within the SCO and in some other multilateral formats, including BRICS," it said.
The meeting took place in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod, on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers Council meeting in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format, it said.
In Nizhny Novgorod, Lavrov on Monday also met with his Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry.
"The sides discussed issues on the current bilateral agenda and expressed mutual interest in maintaining political dialogue on a regular basis and expanding interaction in practical spheres," it said.
Lavrov and Sabry "discussed interacting on various multilateral platforms, including BRICS," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
