Over 1,500 illegal immigrants to be deported from Russia after police check in Moscow region

MOSCOW. June 18 (Interfax) - Police in the Moscow region have put a stop to over 5,300 migration offenses during a weeklong check, and over 1,500 foreigners will now be deported from Russia, the press service for the Moscow regional police department said on Tuesday.

"The operation put a stop to 5,348 administrative offenses in the field of migration. Courts have issued over 1,500 orders for administrative deportation of foreign citizens from Russia," the press service said.

The first stage of Operation Illegal 2024 took place in the Moscow region on June 3-9, it said.

Police drafted over 3,200 administrative motions for violation of the rules of stay in Russia and over 800 motions for illegal work in the reporting period.

More than 500 administrative motions were issued against employers for illegally hiring foreign citizens.

"Administrative fines for migration offenses totaled 19.5 million rubles, and more than 13 million rubles were collected in fines," the press service said.

Twenty-three criminal cases were opened against foreign citizens on counts of drug dealing, in addition to 19 criminal cases on other counts.
