PYONGYANG. June 19 (Interfax) - The treaty on comprehensive cooperation between Russia and North Korea signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Pyongyang will help maintain peace and stability in the region, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said.
"There is no doubt that the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between North Korea and Russia as a grand, great program will reliably guarantee Korean-Russian allied relations for the coming 100 years and [this treaty] fully helps maintain peace and stability in the region, build strong states and common interests of our two countries, Korea and Russia, and also [support] in the security situation of the two counties with a more reliable foundation," Kim Jong Un said at a reception held in honor of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He called the treaty "an important event" that happened "on the path of Korean-Russian relations" and a brilliant result achieved thanks to the efforts and understanding of the Russian president.
Kim Jong Un called the signing of "the most powerful and comprehensive new interstate treaty in the history of Russian-Korean friendship" "a great event."
