Adoption of foreign agent law complicates relations between EU and Georgia - EU ambassador

TBILISI. June 19 (Interfax) - The adoption by the Georgian parliament of the law on the transparency of foreign influence has effectively frozen the process of Georgia's integration into the European Union, Head of the EU Delegation in Tbilisi Pawel Herczynski said.

"I have to say with deep regret that we are going through a rough patch in our relations. We have repeatedly said that the adoption of the legislation on the transparency of foreign influence will negatively affect Georgia's aspirations to join the European Union. Unfortunately, this has happened," Herczynski told journalists on Wednesday.

The EU will discuss its relations with Georgia next week, he said.

"This discussion will take place first at the level of foreign ministers and then at the level of heads of state, after which specific decisions will be adopted," he said.

Relations with Tbilisi will be discussed in the EU as the EU continues to advance its relations with Ukraine and Moldova, Herczynski said.
