BAKU. June 20 (Interfax) -New Azerbaijan, the ruling party in the country, has said it will propose to President Ilham Aliyev to dissolve Milli Majilis (parliament) and to hold early parliamentary elections.
"This decision was adopted at the ruling party's board meeting," the party said in a statement.
Azerbaijan is due to hold next parliament elections in early November 2024. Baku will also host a COP29 climate conference in November.
"We believe that under such conditions, it is appropriate to dissolve the parliament and call early parliamentary elections. Lawmakers of the ruling party have supported the idea of sending a corresponding request to the Azerbaijani president," deputy party chairman Tahir Budagov said, as quoted in the statement.
