Group of militants plotting terror attack on Syrian oil refinery eliminated - Russian reconciliation center

MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax) - Militants plotting a terror attack on a Syrian oil refinery have been killed by a Russian-made Forpost-R drone, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria Maj. Gen. Yury Popov said.

"A group of militants plotting a terror attack on a facility of Syria's oil refining infrastructure was eliminated near the Fagdad refinery in the Syrian desert by a Russian-made Forpost-R attack and reconnaissance drone," Popov said at a press briefing on Thursday.

A Syrian soldier was killed by sniper fire coming from terrorists' positions in the Kafr-Taal area on government forces' positions near Urum as-Sughra in Aleppo province, he said.

Meanwhile, aircraft of the U.S.-led coalition continue to create dangerous situations in Syrian airspace, he said.

"Eight violations of the deconfliction protocols dated December 9, 2019, by flights of the coalition's unmanned aerial vehicles uncoordinated with the Russian side were recorded over the past day," Popov said.

Eight violations of Syrian airspace by a pair of F-15 fighter jets, a pair of Typhoon fighter jets, and two pairs of A-10 Thunderbolt attack planes were recorded in the al-Tanf area in the past 24 hours, he said.
