Three-day mourning begins in Russia's inner republic of Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA. June 24 (Interfax) - The Russian inner republic of Dagestan will be in mourning on June 24-26, so every entertainment event has been cancelled, the press service for the Dagestani head's administration said.

"June 24, 25 and 26 have been declared as the days of mourning in Dagestan. Sergei Melikov has just signed the respective order," the press service said.

State flags will be half-mast throughout the republic on the days of mourning, and cultural centers and television and radio broadcasters will cancel entertainment events, it said.

The Dagestani government was tasked with helping families of the dead and the injured.

The Dagestani Interior Ministry said on Sunday evening that a synagogue and a church in Derbent and a church and a traffic police post in Makhachkala had been attacked.

According to the head of Dagestan, at least 15 police officers and a number of civilians were killed. Financial assistance will be given to families of the dead and the injured.

The National Antiterrorism Committee reported deaths of five militants in Dagestan.
