MOSCOW. June 24 (Interfax) - Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expressed his deep condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin in relation to the deaths of civilians and law enforcement officers in the terrorist attacks in Dagestan, the Kremlin's press service said on Monday.
The leaders "discussed further mutually beneficial Russian-Uzbek cooperation in the context of the arrangements reached during the Russian president's recent visit to Tashkent," it said.
Mirziyoyev sent Putin a telegram of condolences over the attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala, which led to numerous deaths among law enforcement officers and civilians, the Uzbek leader's press service said earlier on Monday.
"The leader of Uzbekistan has strongly condemned the terror attack in Dagestan and expressed his readiness for further active cooperation between respective services in countering such challenges," it said.
The attacks, on a synagogue and a church in Derbent and on an Orthodox church and a traffic police outpost in Makhachkala, were reported by the Dagestani Interior Ministry on Sunday evening. According to the latest information, 20 police officers and several local residents died. Dagestan has declared June 24-26 days of mourning.
