Belarusian, Russian FMs sign joint statement on foreign policy tasks of Union State integration

MINSK. June 24 (Interfax) - Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov signed a joint statement after talks in Minsk, setting out key foreign policy tasks as part of the integration within the Union State, the BelTA Belarusian state-run news agency said on Monday.

"In the statement, the ministers, first and foremost, highly assessed the results of the official visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Belarus - the first Commonwealth of Independent States country [he visited] after his election and inauguration," the news agency said.

The two countries' Foreign Ministries will continue to make every effort to support the agreements reached by the heads of state.

"Our countries have confidently been following the constructive path of building the Union State. In difficult modern-day conditions, we have achieved a fundamentally new level of Belarusian-Russian integration," the statement said.

"The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Belarus and the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation will continue to provide comprehensive foreign policy support for the Union State integration and to strengthen the positions of the Union State on the world stage," it said.
